Hello there JBB fans and other Rouge groupies!

Well, we're having seemingly unending glorious summer weather in Auckland here and the usual  plethora of private parties and weddings at which French Toast and Jews Brothers are wont to play. ( Bear us in mind for
yours.)

Here are a couple of PUBLIC JBB concerts in Hamilton and Auckland's North Shore and a special French Toast gig. We will also tell you about the exciting premiere performance of a new Cuban Charanga band and the first "Kiwiana Trio" concert for this year.

HAMILTON GARDENS SUMMER FESTIVAL

This
has become an annual event which takes place in, at and upon various
lawns, courts, gardens, pavillions and conservatories in the stunning
Hamilton Gardens. And good on you Hamilton for putting on an annual
ten-day arts festival featuring jazz, theatre, opera, visual arts,
sculpture, story-telling and the jews bros!

An extravaganza featuring TWO primo bands The Mamaku Project and The Jews Brothers Band

there you have it. Be there or be square, oh you Waikato-ans and others
who are happy to drive to Hamilton. And don't forget the belly dancers"

The JBB will also be
entertaining the sponsors of the festival on two other nights so become

CALLING ALL CUBAN MUSIC LOVERS !

Orquesta
Nueva Zelanda at Takahe Reserve, Mt Eden , Wednesday Feb 20th 3pm-
5pm,( just beneath the mountain and accessible from Mt Eden Road)
presented by Auckland City Music in Parks programme and the time-slot
is deliberate.

This 7 piece orchestra comprising Cuban
wooden flute , electric piano, violin, conga, timbales, double bass and
mucho vocals will present classic cha cha cha, mambo and danzon in the
authentic Cuban charanga style of the 40s and 50s. The hits of Orquesta
Aragon, Orquesta America, Arcano with Cachao, etc. These are the roots
of today's salsa dancing music and the grooviest and best Cuban music
from the golden period of the cha cha cha. This brand new band is put
together and led by the inimitable Hershal who has loads of credentials
in this style of music and who recently received a special award in NY
for his services to Latin music.

Free out-door concert presented by the Uxbridge Arts Centre, Howick

"Bring a picnic, bottle of wine, a rung and some friends and enjoy a
mix of cool jazz, classy opera and rosy tinted Kiwiana. This is a great
opportunity to enjoy a lazy summer afternoon with live performances."

Lorkin, Anna Rugis and Hershal Herscher will present Linn's Kiwiana
Song Cycle, with piano and accordion, the full programme being:

for those who love French chanson, we would like to announce that Linn,
Anna and Hershal are currently work-shopping, deep in the Uxbridge
Centre, a lovely little musical theatre show called "Chanson" which has
been written specially by Anna and which is coming along very nicely.

accordion and piano and one of NZ's musical treasures, Kelvin Hair, on
guitar and vocals.
A fun, informal and intimate" jazzesque" night
featuring standards, Bacharach, Carole King, Piaf and Linn's and
Kelvin's originals. No cover. But there is a" piano-bar" style tip-jar,
shades of New York!

Trio continues to provide the perfect ambience every Thursday evening
6.30- 8.30 at that authentic French Bar and Bistro called "PASTIS" ,

staff, excellent food, great bar a la francaise and it's like a little
corner of France in downtown Auckland, especially on a Thursday night!

JEWISH JOKE TIME

During
a service at an old synagogue in Eastern Europe, when the Shema prayer
was said, half the congregants stood up and half remained sitting. The
half that was seated started yelling at those standing to sit down, and
the ones standing yelled at the ones sitting to stand up.

The
rabbi, learned as he was in the Law and commentaries, didn't know what
to do. His congregation suggested that he consult a housebound 98 year
old man who was one of the original founders of their temple. The rabbi
hoped the elderly man would be able to tell him what the actual temple
tradition was, so he went to the nursing home with a representative of
each faction of the congregation.

The one whose followers stood during Shema said to the old man, "Is the tradition to stand during this prayer?"

The old man answered, "No, that is not the tradition."

The one whose followers sat said, "Then the tradition is to sit during Shema!"

The old man answered, "No, that is not the tradition."

Then the rabbi said to the old man, "But the congregants fight all the

time, yelling at each other about whether they should sit or stand."

The old man interrupted, exclaiming, "THAT is the tradition!"

A
Jewish grandma and her grandson are at the beach. He is playing in the
water and she is standing on the shore not wanting to get her feet wet,
when all of a sudden, a huge wave appears from nowhere and crashes
directly onto the spot where the boy is wading.

The water recedes and the boy is no longer there. Swept away.

She
raises her hands to the sky as she screams and cries, "Lord, how could
you? Haven't I been a wonderful grandmother? Haven't I been a wonderful
mother? Haven't I kept a kosher home? Haven't I given to B'nai B'rith?
Haven't I given to Hadassah? Haven't I lit candles every Friday night?
Haven't I tried my very best to live a life that you would be proud of?"

A voice booms from the sky, "Okay, okay!"

A
few minutes later, another huge wave appears out of nowhere and crashes
on the beach. As the water recedes, the boy is standing there, smiling
and splashing around as if nothing had ever happened.

The voice booms again. "I have returned your grandson. Are you satisfied?"

She responds, "He had a hat."

The Chief Rabbi of Israel and the new Pope meet in Rome for the first time.

The Pope has a special phone on his desk. The Rabbi asks about the phone.

"It's my direct line to God."

The Rabbi is skeptical...and the Pope notices. The Holy Father insists
that the Rabbi try it out, and, so indeed, he is connected to God. The
Rabbi holds a lengthy discussion with Him. After hanging up the Rabbi
says. "Thank you very much. This is great! I want to pay for my phone
charges."

The Pope, of course, refuses. The Rabbi is steadfast and finally, the
pontiff gives in. He checks the counter on the phone and says: "All
right! The charges are 100,000 lira." The Chief Rabbi gladly hands over a packet
of bills.

A few months later the Pope is in Jerusalem on an official visit. In
the Chief Rabbi's chambers he sees a phone identical to his and learns
it also is a direct line to God. The Pope remembers he has an urgent
matter that requires divine consultation and asks if he can use the
Rabbi's phone.
The Rabbi gladly agrees, hands him the phone, and the Pope chats away.

After hanging up, the Pope offers to pay for the phone charges. The
Rabbi looks on the phone counter and says: "1 Shekel."

The Pope looks surprised: "Why so cheap!?!"

The Rabbi smiles: "Local call."
